Dil Raju to produce Prabhas's next

Dil Raju and Prabhas have a thing in common. Their previous films were flops. If Dil Raju's Josh with Nag Chaitanya was declared a flop in non-A centres, Prabhas' Ek Niranjan's fate is too well known. The producer and the actor are teaming up for a film. And, it will be directed Dasarath who had a flop career as director in Sambaram, Sri and Swagatham many years ago too. So this one may not be a crazy combination, but it might turn out to be the biggest advantage for them, as expectations on them will be low.

Film industry sources say that two girls named Tapsi and Sarah Jain are debuting with this movie in which Prabhas will be shown in a never-seen-before characterisation. Details about the film are still under wraps and an official announcement is expected only after some days.

However, gossip mills hush hush that the film to be made under Sri Venkateswara Creations will be released in the summer of 2010. Naturally, Dil Raju, Prabhas Raju and Dasarath will want to bounce back in a big way with this film.

Only a few months back Dil Raju said in a TV interview that Dasarath has immense talent in him and it is still a wonder that he hasn't met up with much success. He clued in the interview that Prabhas will most probably act in the story. Well, we all know the wonderful judgement capabilities of this producer, who in the past turned hits after hits, only to be trumped for now by Josh.

Prababhas/Raju's new film pooja ceremony on Friday

Prabhas will soon be seen in a new film which will be produced by ‘Dil’ Raju. Dasarath, who had earlier directed films like Santosham, Sambharam, Swagatham, will direct this film. The film had its pooja ceremony on Friday.

Reliance Movies gets overseas theatrical rights of Darling

Darling the current film of young rebel star Prabhas co-starring Kajal Agarwal is progressing at brisk pace. The film directed Karunakaran (his earlier films were Tholiprema and Ullasamga Uthsahamga) is slated for 2010 March release. Reliance Movies USA bought the overseas theatrical rights from producer Bogavalli Prasad, who is producing it under Sri Venkateswara Cine Chitra banner. Reliance had recently distributed the comedy flick ‘A Aa E Eee’ at abroad. Now, with this film it is said to be capturing the overseas market on a large scale.

It appears that the Telugu film industry is currently in a dire situation and one look at the box office will give you the picture. Prabhas heroine has links with terrorists?

Ek Niranjan' Satellite Rights Still Not Sold

It was with great hype and hoopla that the film ‘Ek Niranjan’ has hit the screens but then the final result is out. The movie has been declared a dud at the box office. Now, another problem seems to have surfaced to the makers due to this.

Apparently, sources say that the makers were expecting huge sum for the satellite rights after the release so they didn’t sell till then. But with the result, no buyers are coming forward and the producer is getting low offers. Given the big budget of the film, this is a major blow.

Many say that the main cause for the flop is heroine and if there was Trisha or Anushka, it would have worked with the patronage of family audience. The mass audience could not find the new girl Kangana appealing. Now, the lesson is big budget movies must be sold before the release and not after.

Story

ek niranjan Chotu (Prabhas) is born to poor parents. A beggars mafia guy steals Chotu to make him a beggar. Chotu grows up as an informer to the cops. And he calls himself as 'bounty hunter'. His duty is to catch the criminals on behalf of police and earn some money from the cops for doing their duty. He falls in love with a guitar music teacher Sameera (Kangana Raunat) and her brother happens to be a mafia guy whom Chotu is entrusted to nab. Johnny (Sonu Sood) is a mafia kingpin in the city. The rest of the story is all about what happens when Johnny encounters Chotu and when Chotu has multiple responsibility of apprehending and saving the same guy.

Artists Performance

ek niranjan Prabhas's characterization in this movie is an extention of his character in Puri Jagan's Bujjigadu - made in Chennai. Prabhas is adorable with his mass language with godavari dialect. He is charming with his carefree demeanor. Kangana Raunat who looked fabulous in Hindi flicks like Gangster and Fashion seemed out of place in this Telugu film. She is just average. Sonu Sood walks away with honors, thanks to terrific characterization by Puri Jagan. He played the role of a sadistic villain and entertains us with funny dialogues. Brahmaji did another terrific character in this movie after his cameo in Athadu film. The pair of Sonu Sood and Brahmaji is hilarious. Brahmanandam's comedy in not upto the mark. Ali is wasted as a magician in 'Jack Sparrow' get-up. Venu Madhav and Sunil characters are partly entertaining. Posani Krishna Murali provides humor as a cunning politician. Mukul Dev and Tanikella Bharani are adequate. The kid who did the mimicry is good. Makrand Deshpande suited the role well and he adds value to the movie. Half of his dialogues are in written in Hindi for his convenience.

Technical departments

Story - screenplay - directon: Story of the movie is about a son in search of his parents. The characterization of Prabhas is extended from their last movie Bujjigadu and you can see some shades of Pokiri in this movie too. Direction by Puri Jagan is good. But the screenplay should have been better in the second half. The characterizations of villain and hero are good. And there is nice confrontation scenes between them. Puri Jagan who has shown promise in the first half of the movie couldn't carry the same element of interest in the second half. The last twenty minutes of the movie is a downer. I liked the point at which he closed the movie instead of showing some routine and dramatic reunion in the end.

Other departments: Music by Mani Sharma is very good. All songs are canned well on the screen. The title song Ek Niranjan is excellent. Evaru Lerani song is very good. There is a tribute to Michael Jackson in the last song of the movie. This song is nicely edited with some rare footage of MJ. Dialogues by Puri Jagan deserves a special appreciation. The dialogues penned for Prabhas and Sonu Sood are excellent. The dialogues before 'evaru lerani' song (heroine proposal scene) are really good. Puri Jagan has made it a habit to make heroine call hero 'naa kodaka' in his recent movies. Cinematography by Shyam K Naidu is nice. Editing by Varma is adequate. Fights are good. The climax fight should have been impact-making.

Analysis: First half of the movie is entertaining. Second half is also adequate but for the last twenty minutes. The graph of the movie goes down from the time the story shifts to Bangkok. The plus points are Prabhas, dialogues and music. On the flip side the second half should have been better and the violence should have been toned down. On a whole, Ek Niranjan is a not a bad film. We have to wait and see how the masses receive it.

Ek Niranjan was released with 350 prints in over 700 theatres on October 29th. A special cell set up by Adityaram Movies to seize pirated CDs and DVDs proved to be successful, those who indulged in the offense were arrested from places in Hyderabad, Kadapa, Avanigadda. Puri self-censors Ek Niranjan's comedy track

Though we may be disappointed with the cheap comedy of Ek Niranjan, one needs to appreciate Puri for readily making a decision to delete the track (involving ace comedians Brahmanandam and Ali) from the third day of its release.

Directors like K Vijayabhaskar in the past have responsed to audience's demands when their sensitivities were hurt (one needs to cite the instance of the deletion of a scene involving a blind woman and Brahmanandam in Nuvvu Naku Nacchav).

In the case of Ek Niranjan, the film can only benefit with the decision because the comedy track stunts the narration rather than evoke some relieving laughter. A wise decision of the makers, infact.
